CONSUMER ALERT: ‘Credential Harvesting’ Phishing Scams

Consumers need to be aware that credential harvesting phishing scams are on the rise.

As part of this phishing scam, criminals are sending personalized email messages with an alarming subject line, such as “Card Deactivation.” The emails include a button to “cancel” the deactivation process, which, once clicked, takes victims to a fake web page that requests user IDs, passwords, and answers to their security questions. Here some other commonly used subject lines used in these scams:

  • Online Banking Alert: Your Account will be Deactivated
  • Dear Valued Customer
  • Failed Package Delivery
  • Reviewing Payments
  • Serious Issues

Arvest Bank would like to remind our customers Arvest will never email, text, or call you unsolicited to ask for account information, social security numbers, online banking credentials, or other sensitive information.

What to Do

If you get an email that appears to be from Arvest Bank and is asking you to click a link and enter data, do not respond.

  • If you received an e-mail like this and entered your personal information, please contact us immediately at (866) 931-9743 so that we can protect your account.
  • If you received an e-mail like this, but did not divulge confidential information, please notify us via email at reportfraud@arvest.com. If possible, please include the original e-mail that you suspect is part of the phishing scam. 

Phishing scams come in a variety of forms. Although most are similar to this one, involving a spoofed email alert, others come in the form of customer service surveys, telephone calls, or even cell phone text messages. Please be aware that while most phishing scams direct you to fake websites, others may ask you to call a phone number where an automated phone system prompts you to divulge confidential information.

While it can be difficult to identify spoofed email messages, websites, and automated phone systems, it is not difficult to know if any of the above may be related to a fraudulent phishing scam. The key is knowing that legitimate businesses do not send messages to customers prompting them to divulge confidential information. If you receive such a message, no matter how genuine it may appear, assume it to be fraudulent and please notify the legitimate business immediately.

Arvest Bank Hits $1 Billion Mortgage Mark for 16th Straight Year

Arvest Bank announced today that its mortgage division has originated more than $1 billion in mortgage loans for the 16th year in a row. That includes both purchase-money and refinance loans. This is the earliest the bank has reached the $1 billion mark since 2013, indicating a strong real estate market in the communities the bank serves.

“We continue to be honored and humbled that so many customers choose Arvest for their mortgage needs, whether that’s purchasing or refinancing a home,” said Steven Plaisance, president and chief executive officer of Arvest’s mortgage division. “It’s also worth noting that the majority of loans we are issuing continue to be purchase-money loans, a sign that our markets are healthy and that rates are still very attractive. Our team of mortgage bankers has been highly energized by the solid housing activity, and finds no better satisfaction than helping our customers throughout the entire home loan process.”

Arvest reached the $1 billion mark almost a month sooner than it did last year. As of June 29, Arvest had closed a total of 5,438 loans with a total loan value of $1,006,911,116. In 2017, the bank reached the $1 billion mark on July 24.

“The housing market has stayed robust, with competitive lending rates and strong home sales in many areas,” said Plaisance. “I think these results reflect strong consumer confidence as well.”

This is the fifth consecutive year in which purchase-money loans account for more of Arvest’s total mortgage loan volume than refinances. Through June 29, purchase-money loans accounted for 66 percent of the company’s total loan volume. That’s up from 64 percent in 2017.

Also through June 29, Arvest made 3,621 purchase-money loans with a volume of $667,247,854. That’s up from 3,183 loans and $553,997,133 in volume compared to year-to-date totals on June 29, 2017.

Arvest’s overall 2018 volume of $1,006,911,116 – on 5,438 loans as of June 29 – is up from $870,514,377 on 4,964 loans as of the same date in 2017. That’s a 15.7 percent increase.

The average loan size also increased, from $175,365 in 2017 to $185,162 in 2018, reflecting improving values in the real estate market.

Arvest is unique among most local lenders in that it services 99 percent of its mortgage loans, meaning that customers make their payments to Arvest and work directly with Arvest for any needs after their loan closes.

Classic Mobile App Set to Retire

Now is the time to Arvest Go.

Arvest Classic—our first mobile banking app—will no longer work beginning fall 2018. We removed the app from the app stores on July 12, 2018 in anticipation of this upcoming change.

Why is This Happening?

The vendor that supports our Classic mobile app has made the decision to stop its support and maintenance of this product for our customers.

Although the app is no longer supported by the vendor, it should continue working until the disconnect date in fall 2018 unless it is deleted from the device. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may have caused.

New Mobile Banking App Available

Logging in and using our new mobile banking app, Arvest Go, is easy. Arvest Go has all the best features of Classic plus several enhancements, such as fingerprint login and an optimized mobile check deposit experience.

To get started, simply download the free Arvest Go app on your iPhone®* or Android™* device and sign in using your current Classic online banking login ID and password. After successfully logging in to Arvest Go, be sure to delete the Arvest Classic app from your device.

Ensure you are running the most current OS for an optimal experience with Arvest Go. The Arvest Go app requires at least Apple iOS 9 or Android 5 Lollipop to run.

We make frequent updates to Arvest Go based on the newest technology trends and feedback from our customers. We are excited to bring you the best we have to offer in mobile banking.

The Classic mobile web banking service will also retire this fall, but mobile web banking will not go away. The look and feel of your experience will change.

To enjoy an optimal banking experience on your iPad®, please use Online Banking with BlueIQ™, accessed easily through your tablet’s browser. Our replacement mobile app, Arvest Go, is not currently configured for iPad viewing and usage.

Important Information about Your Bentonville ZIP Code

The United State Postal Service has added a new ZIP code – 72713 – in Bentonville. If you are an Arvest customer who has been assigned this new ZIP code, please visit a nearby Arvest branch or call us at (866) 952-9523 to update your address with the new ZIP code.

As a reminder, Arvest will not contact you via telephone regarding this update. To report suspicious email messages, phone calls or text messages, please forward the message, or send a description of the call, to: reportfraud@arvest.com.

Arvest debit card purchases

Some Arvest debit card purchases require customers to enter their ZIP code. Here is what Arvest debit card customers need to know if they have been assigned the new 72713 Zip code:

  • Until affected customers contact Arvest to update their ZIP code to 72713, they should continue to use the 72712 ZIP code when making purchases. If customers enter the new 72713 ZIP code before contacting Arvest to update their information, purchases could be declined.
  • Once customers contact Arvest to update their ZIP code to 72713, it takes about 30 minutes for the update to be made in our systems.

Arvest credit card customers

Some Arvest credit card purchases also require customers to enter their ZIP code. Here is what Arvest credit card customers need to know if they have been assigned the new 72713 Zip code:

  • Affected customers can proactively update their ZIP code to 72713 by calling customer service at (800) 356-8085 or online at arvest.cardmanager.com.
  • Until affected customers update their ZIP code to 72713, they should continue to use the 72712 ZIP code when making purchases. If customers enter the new 72713 ZIP code before updating their information, purchases could be declined.
  • Once customers update their ZIP code to 72713, it takes about 30 minutes for the update to be made in our systems.
  • Additionally, addresses for Arvest credit card accounts are updated on a quarterly basis via an agreement with the United States Postal Service. If a ZIP code discrepancy is discovered during a quarterly review, we will update the address and notify customers via letter.

 

 

Arvest Bank Announces Duke Hiring

Arvest Bank is pleased to announce Tracy Duke has been hired as a commercial banker in Springdale, Arkansas.

With more than 20 years of banking experience, Duke will manage large credit loans and working capital lines of credit, as well as develop commercial relationships, among other responsibilities. He will be based out of the Arvest branch located at 415 W. Emma Ave.

Duke earned a bachelor’s degree at Henderson State University and a master’s in business administration at the University of Arkansas – Little Rock. He also graduated from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.

Among other civic endeavors, Duke has served as chairman of the Pulaski County Public Facilities Board and vice chairman of the Henderson State Foundation Board. He and his wife, Jane, have three children.
